Amalgamated Press, London - 1930, 1st Edition. (Hardcover) Very good. vii, 320; vii, 321-640; vii, 641-992pp. Quarto. 3 vols. All three with dark blue cloth covered boards, stamped decoration and gilt lettering on spine and front cover. Some of the boards lightly bowed. Wear to cloth especially at spine and corners, with some light bumping. Light rubbing and some staining to the boards. Clean endpapers with mild foxing. Several full colour plates throughout the volumes as well as many B / W photos and illustrations within the text. Clean, tight text block. Signed by all three of the authors on the second page and INSCRIBED by WELLS. The inscription by Wells reads "To Richard [.] Williams, with the best wishes in the [.] [.] H. G. Wells". 109 in the Wells Society Bibliography (1986). "An ambitious biological survey, intended for the general reader, originally published in 31 fortnightly parts. The second part of an encyclopaedic trilogy, comprising 'The Outline of History' 'The Science of Life' and 'The Work, Wealth and Happiness of Mankind'." Republished by Cassell in the mid 1930's.
