Spine has repaired joints strengthened, raised bands, gilt tooling, titles in gilt to maroon leather labels. Internally, book label of Miss Mostyn, Bodysgallen to all volumes, light browning to blank page edges, some offsetting. Vol 1, half title, frontis, [5], (vi-xviii), [2], [3], 4-415 pp, 17 plates some pull out, includes the errata list. Vol 2, half title, frontis, [4], 415 pp, 15 B&W plates. Vol 3, half title, frontis, [4], 484 pp, 12 B&W plates some pull out, printed by S Hamilton, Weybridge. A very tight set, complete, with all its 44 plates, with only the very lightest of browning. PENNANT, naturalist, antiquary, traveller. During his lifetime Pennant received many honours and marks of distinction, foreign as well as British . The one he most appreciated was his election in 1757 as a member of the Royal Society of Upsala . Before that, in 1754 , he had been elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries , which he resigned in 1760 . Honours came to him from Norway , Sweden , and America , and in 1767 he was made F.R.S. , while in 1771 he received the honorary degree of LL.D from Oxford University .
