- 1976., - 1976. 1972 - Unique artist's book / maquette for the printed book Buchwerke: Original-Bücher 1972 bis 1976. Wrappers. Perfect bound. 32 page treatments of five pages each. 2-3 pages of each treatment are reproduced in Buchwerke: Original-Bücher 1972 bis 1976, with text by Hermann Kern. The printed book includes two treatments not in the maquette. Signed and inscribed to H. Kern in pencil on inner front cover. Very good condition. Some light pencil notations on the first page of each treatment. Paper clip indentations at top of some pages. Fiber loss and rubbing to wraps. 11.75 x 8.5". Unpaginated. 160 sheets. Page treatments are as follows:1. "Throughout a bound book an oblong shape (approx. 2 x 9 cm) is applied horizontally with glue on every sheet and the sheets are glued to each other. After drying, they are slit open."2. "The lower half of the page is covered with cardboard, and the attempt is made to draw with pen / Skriptol the vertical middle line by eye and freehand. After drying, the upper half is covered with cardboard and the attempt repeated."3. "A 15.5 x 9 cm large rectangle is cut out of the middle of a DIN A4 cardboard sheet. The stencil created in this way is placed on a sheet, and the cut-out section is diagonally hatched with brush / reddish brown paint."4. "A 15.5 x 9 cm large rectangle is cut out of the middle of a DIN A4 cardboard sheet. The stencil created in this way is placed on a sheet, and the inside edges are drawn as frame with red chalk using varying pressure." 5. "A DIN A4 sheet of corrugated cardboard (diagonal grain) is brushed with pink paint, a sheet is placed on top of it and pressed on to it."6. "Two 9 x 15 cm large rectangles, one below the other, are cut from a DIN A4 sheet of cardboard, each being 3 cm distant from the long and the broad edge. A sheet is laid on the stencil created in this way, the upper rectangle is marked in hatching with pencil [charcoal] and the lower rectangle with red chalk."7. "The attempt was made to draw by eye fourteen horizontal lines each 1 cm long and at a distance of 2 cm from each other from the middle of the upper edge of the sheet with pencil. A stencil in which these proportions had been exactly easured beforehand is then laid on the sheet and the lines are drawn with red pencil."8. "25 equally distributed crosses (5 lines with 5 crosses each) are drawn with red pencil on the page. A wooden ball (diam. = 6 cm) suspended on a 50 cm long cord is smeared with brown paint on its lower surface and the attempt is made to hit the marked crosses.9. "The attempt is made to draw a chair with eyes closed on each page in a bound book."10. "Two sheets together are dipped into boiling wax on the right long edge about 3.5 cm long"11. "The attempt is made on each page to draw with eyes closed a frame as a vertical rectangle in a bound book. Then with a stencil and red pencil 4 corner marks each 3.5 cm from the edges of the sheet are made."12. "From the middle of the left edge down to the lower right corner a 2.3 cm wide adhesive crepe tape is pasted on to a DIN A4 sheet of cardboard. A sheet is laid on top of this and the base is rolled with a rubber roller (20 cm wide) with brown paint on it from the lower edge up to the upper edge. The sheet is then turned over laterally inverted and the process repeated on the reverse side."13. "Three 7 x 17 cm large cardboard rectangles are glued on to a DIN A4 sheet of cardboard one under the other at an interval of 1 cm from each other, each 3.2 cm from the broad edges and 2 cm from the long edges. A sheet is laid on top of the cardboard and the edges of the glued-on cardboard rectangles are rubbed through with gray crayon." 14. "A Letratron sheet is rubbed off on 100 pages an the attempt is made to apply approximately the same amount on each page." 15. "In a bound book, each page is entirely filled with drawn 7 [sic] red chalk lines, which are subdivided into three horizontal approximately equally long strokes (approx. 0.5 x 5 cm)."16.
