(vi), xvi, (5)-287 pp. Uncut in original paper backed drab boards, title in contemporary manuscript to spine. 52 plates with partial handcolouring. Small tear with loss to rear free endpaper, the plates with varying degrees of foxing, a very good unsophisticated copy. ".one of the first British accounts of tactics, as opposed to a work in French translation" (DNB). The first part was privately printed in 1782 and published properly in 1790 with the following three parts in 1797. This is the first collected edition.
