The Photographic Album of "A European and Eastern Tour. Aug 2nd-Oct 1st 1928".
- An oblong 4to photograph album 12.5 x 9ins, 320 x 230mm original brown cloth with silk tie at the backstrip, corner of top cover waterstained and worn.Large printed linen-mounted map folded-in (key and publisher cut off) 1000 x 550mm, 39 x 22ins, neat manuscript caption added and the route marked in red. Small section waterstained. The tour commenced from London in the North to Cairo in the South, Toulouse at it’s most Western, and Amman/Damascus to the East. Mrs Humphreys appears a few times, otherwise there is no indication as to the travellers.Each page has 5 original mounted photographs. Each is carefully anotated in white ink below or beside. Some 90 pages in all, so around 450 photographs. 20 pages concern the journey southwards through France, particularly the South-West and Rhone/Provence areas, 15 Italy/Greece/Turkey, 7 Syria, 20 Palestine/Holy Land, 4 Trans-Jordan, 18 returning through Europe Germany/Austria.Some images are faded, but mostly good.A lively record of Touring in the early days of the motor car, several photographs show the car being loaded onto ferries.
