First edition thus. Volume two only of two. With a preface to front and contents listed to verso of title. Teresa of vila, also called Saint Teresa of Jesus, baptised as Teresa Snchez de Cepeda y Ahumada, (1515 - 1582) was a prominent Spanish mystic, Roman Catholic saint, Carmelite nun, writer of the Counter Reformation, and theologian of contemplative life through mental prayer. She was a reformer of the Carmelite Order and is considered to be a founder of the Discalced Carmelites along with John of the Cross. Condition: In a contemporary calf binding. Externally,generally sound but with some wear to extremities and with front board detached, rear held by cords only. With loss to head and tail of spine and to spine label. Internally, text block generally firmly bound but with front free endpaper detached due to joint. [with last 3 pages of text absent: 398pp of 401pp and with usual pages following or preceding text not present]. Bright and generally clean but with occasional tidemarks, the odd spot and ink mark to front and an ink stamp to front free endpaper. Slight marginal chipping and lossin places, generally not affecting text but with past repair to page 397. Slight evidence of past worming in places.
