London: A. Dod,1729. - [2], 16, [2], 29, [2], 118, cxix-cxxiv pp. 4to. First edition. First issue. Bound in full morocco, gilt, signed 'Club Bindery' (presumably the Grolier Club). All edges gilt. Slight rubbing and wear to spine; front endpaper beginning to loosen; else an excellent clean copy. From the library of Beverly Chew, and bearing his leather bookplate. The Dunciad appeared in four different versions between 1728 and 1743. This is the second expanded version. Griffith 211a. Beverly Chew was a founder member of the Grolier Club, serving as its librarian from 1887 until 1892, and as its President from 1892 until 1896. After his death in 1924 his extensive library was sold at the Anderson Galleries in New York. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
