BODLEY HEAD, LONDON 1955 - True first edition first printing of C S Lewis's children's classic, The Magician's Nephew, chronologically the first volume in The Chronicles of Narnia, in which the magical land is created by Aslan. The book is in VERY GOOD condition, with clean, creamy pages, a strong tight bindings, corners very slightly rounded. The cloth is clean, except for a spot on the spine, corresponding to a hole in the dustwrapper. Between pages 13 and 51 there is browning to the top of the leaves - this starts as a tiny spot on pages 13 and finishes on page 51 with page 49 having the brown mark to approx 1.5 cm along top edge and also with three area of browning in the margins. Otherwise, the book is very clean, without inscriptions. The binding is slightly cocked, but stands up. Overall, it is very good. Pages after p51 are very clean and unmarked. The dustwrapper is NOT price clipped, showing a price of 8s 6d net. The front panel is clean and little rubbed, with minor chips to corners. The spines is chipped at head and heel, and there is a 2cm open tear to the centre of the spine, and a small 3mm hold just below it. The rear panel is mellowed has small chips to the corner like the front panel, and some areas of marking. In all, this is a VERY GOOD book in a not quite VERY GOOD dustwrapper. This volume is scarce to find in this condition and will grace any serious collector's shelf. A nice, attractive copy. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
