The black ink from the design paste-downs shows some light offsetting onto the facing design endpapers. The collages feature many natural forms of plants, insects, birds, fish, frogs, snakes, and other animals; mushrooms, pinecones, as well as lace, etc. Some of the poems relate to the collages, and this is carefully explained in the two introductions by Cox and Tucker.
