The Decoration of Houses
Batsford 1898 - This is the first UK edition (204 numbered pages + 4 ad pages), published by Batsford after the first US edition. The cover (9.25" x 7"), purple background with gold lettering, is moderately edge worn and with several light scuffs, but with no prominent stains. The connection to the inside is secure. The gilt to the spine is slightly faded, but clearly legible. That to the front is unfaded. The only attachment is a personal bookplate (Alice Bulkeley Winslow) to the front inside cover. There is no writing, nor are there any other stamps. Several gutters are cracked, but the binding is secure, with no loose or missing pages. There is edge chatter, all of which is shallow, to a number of pages. There are only two notable page tears, each to a border, not extending into the live areas. One of these is to the bottom of a text spread (page 27) and one is to the top of plate XXXIV (see photo). All 56 plates are present and unfaded. There is recurrent foxing, most light, none obscuring the text or art. There are few other stains, the most notable being a sunned title page, the result of a brochure having been left in place. The above photos are accurate reflections of the book conditions. International shipping would be by global express insured delivery, declared for the full value, with a shipping charge of $65.00. US shipping would be by priority insured mail, with a shipping charge of $20.00 [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
