terra amata [Signed]
Atheneum, New York 1969 - A Very Near Fine copy of the first American edition, first printing (some spotting to the topstain, minor spot to front free endpaper -- otherwise Fine), in a Very Near Fine dust jacket (light wear to the spine ends, small spot to the rear panel), SIGNED BY J. M. G. LE CLÉZIO on the half-title and there fittingly inscribed by him as follows: "a voyage imaginaire / avec le merci / de JMG le Clezio"; le Clézio's third novel, a tale centered on Chancelade, a man who, from childhood to death, sees his life in minute detail. J. M. G. le Clézio' won the 1963 Prix Renaudot for his novel debut novel "Le Procès-Verbal" (published in English as "The Interrogation"), and the 2008 Nobel Prize in Literature as an "author of new departures, poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy, explorer of a humanity beyond and below the reigning civilization". Of "terra amata, the Wall Street Journal stated (in 2008, after le Clézio had published over 36 books ) ".Mr. Le Clézio's most impressive book may be a brief one he published at age 27, when he was still a combative modernist. "Terra Amata," translated into English in 1967, combines his game-playing as the author with a savage lyricism reminiscent of Thomas Hardy." We have not seen any other signed copies of the book in any language. A Very Near Fine copy, SIGNED BY J. M. G. LE CLEZIO. QUITE SCARCE. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
