(Follows UK and US two-volume issues in 1887 and 1886 of the same edition, as well as the 1854 Hurst and Blackett edition under a different title. See Line, Ettlinger, and Gladstone's Bibliography of Russian Literature in English Translation.) Good condition. Clean pages. Cloth soiled and rubbed, especially lettering on spine; tips worn. Cloth frayed at head and tail. Former owner's name on title page. Split hinges at front and rear, need to be handled with care. Good condition overall.A very scarce early English-language appearance of Gogol's classic novel.
