- Paris, Audot, 1823. 4to. Oblong. (ii), frontispiece, titlepage, 37,37pp + 107 plates on 81 plates and one (plate 45) is bound in as a frontispiece. Original pink wrappers. A lovely clean and uncut copy. Second edition of this beautifully illustrated work on garden architecture. According to Barbier the author of this anonymous work is Guiol, an engineer. This second enlarged edition contains nearly the double number of plates as the first edition that was published in 1808. In the essay, the author gives a general introduction to gardens and objects that can be used to adorn them, like fountains, bridges, obelisks etc. Then follows a section with tables of edible and other plants and it list which soil is needed, whether the plants need sun or shade, when they flower, etc. etc. The plates show examples of possible layouts, bridges, pavilions, temples, labryrinths, fountains etc. [c.f.
