I MARRIED A WITCH (1942; ca.1950 reissue)
Rene Clair Prod. / United Artists / Masterpiece Prod. 1950 - Vintage original 11 x 14" (28 x 35 cm.) lobby card set of eight (8), USA. Veronica Lake, Frederic March, Robert Benchley, Susan Hayward, Cecil Kellaway, dir: Rene Clair; Rene Clair Productions / United Artists. Classic film comedy from which the popular 1960s television series "Bewitched" was derived. Made at Paramount Studios, the film was released through UA as Paramount had a surplus of films to release theatrically during the 1942-43 season. The film was made amidst chaos, which included artistic differences between Clair and contributors Dalton Trumbo and Preston Sturges (the original, uncredited producer), who both left the film, and intense dislike between stars Lake and March. In the end, however, a brilliant and memorable comedy resulted, including one of Veronica Lake's finest performances. Many of the film's delightful moments are represented in this set, which warranted a reissue through Masterpiece Productions. The cards are nearly flawless with a small rub at the center blank white margin of the title card and a small left edge border tear (both addressed with tape) and a spot of soiling at the top right blank white margin of card no. 3. Otherwise cards are mint. FINE.
