Lille. Societe de Saint-Augustin DESCLEE de Brouwer. 1890 - Folio 21x15 inches, original publisher's buckram backed printed boards. Title, preface and 27 colour printed maps with accompanying leaves of text, accessible via tabs. Complete. Some wear to the boards, the front free endpaper torn and one tab slightly torn- otherwise internally a very good copy of this rare atlas. The areas covered by the Societe des Missions-Etrangeres include Tibet, Burma, Siam and near areas, Korea, some of Japan and some of China. No auction record via ABPC has ever been recorded and there is no reference to this atlas except as here below. Adrien Launay (1853-1927) entre au seminaire des Missions etrangeres en 1874. Il est ordonne pretre le 24 février 1877. Il part pour la Cochinchine le 5 avril de la meme annee. Il est nomme a My Tho, comme vicaire et aumonier de l'hopital militaire. En 1879, il est charge du district de Cai-de et Cai-thia. Il tombe malade peu apres, et doit alors se reposer au sanatorium de Bethanie de Hong Kong. Il est oblige en 1882 de rentrer en France- on his return he published many books on the missions including - Il publie aussi un atlas des Missions de la Societe des Missions Etrangeres. COPAC shows only one copy held at the British Library. Except for this online reference to the atlas, no other information about it has been found. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
