A Place of Greater Safety (Signed First)
Viking 1992 - First edition, first impression, warmly inscribed to the title page by Hilary Mantel - a textual reference in the inscription is also initialled by the author at the relevant point (p.273). An uncommon first (Mantel’s first take on labyrinthine historical fiction, shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1992) – very rare signed. Near Fine: tight and square, and crisp and clean, presenting as unread; tanned to the edge of the block and a little rubbed to the spine ends. The unclipped dustwrapper (£15.99 stated) is likewise Near Fine: crisp, bright and attractive, with a touch of wear to the spine tips and corners and a little crinkling along the extreme top edge of the rear panel; notably, the spine is unfaded with a deep charcoal grey and vivid red - presents beautifully in a removable, archival-quality Brodart protective cover. All-in-all, a very special copy. All orders are sent carefully wrapped in bubble wrap and sturdy cardboard. Heavy, but extra postage will not be sought within the United Kingdom.
