First edition of an important eyewitness account of this famous battle, in which Horatio Nelson demonstrated remarkable skill and daring. Published as a letter from Lieutenant Colonel John Drinkwater, who had witnessed the battle from the frigate "Lively". In this important narrative Drinkwater is the first writer to call attention to the central role played by Nelson, who had been jealously ignored in the official dispatches. Appendices list killed and wounded, vessels of each nation, officers, etc. The plates are battle plans showing position of the fleets at various times throughout the battle. BMM Catalog V, 1799.
