Coupe des Voitures Legeres 1911 - Bablot le gagnant sur Delage. Magneto Bosch Carburateur Claudel.
Mabileau & Co. Paris. 1911. - Color lithograph with pochoir (stencil) handcolor, image approximately 15 1/2 x 32 inches on sheet 17 3/4 x 35 1/2 inches. 3/4 inch tear with paper loss to centre of lower edge; clean and bright image. 'Gamy' is thought to be a pseudonym of Marguerite Montaut, the wife of the French poster artist Ernest Montaut, who died in 1909 at the age of 31. Ernest Montaut and, after his death, his wife, produced posters whose subject matter reflects the era's fascination with speed, on land and in the air. The posters were elaborately produced employing a combination of color lithography and handcoloring using the pochoir (stencil) process. This image commemorates the winner Paul Bablot in a Delage auto in the Light Vehicles Cup of 1911. The vehicle speeds through the countryside leaving a plume of smoke and astounded onlookers.
