A first edition of this fascinating study of reptiles, amphibians, fish, tunicates and cyclostomata. Including physiological, reprodutive and behavioural characteristics, along with their place within their ecosystems and environments. Beautifully illustrated throughout with four coloured plates, thirty-three black-and-white plates, a folding map and multitudinous vignettes and figures within the text, collated complete. Richard Lydekker (1849 1915) was an English naturalist, geologist and writer of numerous books on natural history. He was responsible for the cataloguing of the fossil mammals, reptiles and birds in the Natural History Museum. Lydekker was also influential in the science of biogeography. In 1895 he delineated the biogeographical boundary through Indonesia, known as Lydekker's Line, that separates Wallacea on the west from Australia-New Guinea on the east. Condition: In a cloth binding. Externally smart, with some marks to the boards and some minor shelfwear to the spine only. Internally, generally firmly bound, although some hinges strained in places. Pages are bright and clean, with just the odd spot. Overall: VERY GOOD..
