Bacchus Behave! The Lost Art of Polite Drinking (Scarce in Dust Jacket)
Frederick A. Stokes Co., New York 1933 - A superb copy in the scarce original dust jacket. Handsomely bound in woven textured salmon colored cloth stamped brightly in blue on the front boards and on the spine. A fine copy. Clean and crisp throughout; virtually unread. With 18 chapters featuring cocktails, whisky, gin, brandy, liqueurs, wines, rum, champagne, beer hints to hostesses, strange nectars, canapĂ©s and Hors-D'Oeuvres, the buffet supper, punches and cups. In the original dust jacket with the price of $1.25 at the top of the inside front flap. With a drawing of three elegant cocktail imbibers on the front panel. On the rear panel of the jacket: "What Celebrities Say" with quotes from Rupert Huges, Clark Gable, Marie Dressler, Tom Mix, and Cecil B. DeMille. The charming jacket has some very light chipping to the top and bottom of the spine ends and a touch of rubbing at the corners. The delicate salmon colors of the spine are lightly faded; the front panel is bright. Light soiling to the rear panel which has a closed .25" tear at the top edge. Overall, a splendid copy in a lovely dust jacket which is quite scarce. A brand new kind of book to fit the new era. Fashion’s handbook to correct usage in selection, quality, mixture, temperature, containers, and service of spirited beverages. The book for which hostesses have sighed into their sherry and strong men have cried into their beer. Clark Gable says, "Alma Whitaker gave me many a laugh in the etiquette of a forgotten art." Alma Whitaker was a well-known newspaper-and-club woman in Los angeles. First Edition with matching dates of 1933 on the title and copyright pages; no subsequent printings listed [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
