Edinburgh: A. Fullarton and Co., 1847-9. - 4 volumes, large octavo. Contemporary half calf, marbled boards, raised bands to spine, decorations to compartments gilt, red and green morocco labels, edges speckled red, text printed in double columns. Boards lightly rubbed, slight wear to edges of boards, occasional spotting and light foxing throughout. Volume I: slight worm damage affecting the fore edge of the first fourth of the text block; Volume IV: closed tear to page 29. Otherwise a very good set. 66 engraved plates, of which 7 are hand-coloured, and occasional illustrations and diagrams in text. First edition of this agricultural encyclopaedia, which seeks to communicate 'a thorough knowledge of farming, a general knowledge of gardening, and a very considerable knowledge of the natural sciences, and of general country affairs' (Prospectus, Volume I).
