Lolita (First Israeli Edition)
Olympia Press/Steimatzky's Agency, Israel 1959 - First Israeili Edition (Single Volume Hardcover). Hardcover. 7.5" x 4.75". 223pp. A rare early printing of Nabokov's famously challenged title, Lolita, offset from the sheets of the second Paris edition. One of a limited print run (1500-2000 total, half hardcover), it is stamped number 1442 on the jacket's front flap. Part of the Traveller's Companion Series, there is some debate among Nabokov scholars as to whether this edition was authorized by Nabokov himself or whether it was illegally authorized by Olympia Press founder Maurice Girodias. (Juliar) Lightly chipped and edgeworn dust jacket in protective archival cover. Blue cloth binding; silver lettering to spine completely faded. Very slight lean to spine. Light foxing to page edges. Laid in newspaper clipping (unattached) about Nabokov at front endpaper. Pages generally clean with some light toning, and a small dampstained spot to rear endpaper. Overall a very clean, tight copy. First Israeili Edition (Single Volume Hardcover) [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
