La colonia italiana di Filadelfia.
Officine tipografiche del giornale "L'Opinione", Philadelphia 1906 - Volume published for the 1906 Milan International (Esposizione Internazionale di Milano). 119 leaves printed only on the recto. Modern green cloth. Frontispiece. A concise history of Italian immigrants in Philadelphia. With brief notes on the supposedly first Italians to have established residence in the City of Brotherly Love (Vito Viti, according to the text, was the very first in 1815); the First Italian Presbyterian Church; the Società di M. S. Maria Santissima delle Grazie di "Acquavella-Cilento"; the Consorella Associazione Italiana Regina Margherita; the Società Italiana di Mutuo Soccorso San Biagio; the Chiesa Cattolica di Santa Maria Maddalena de Pazzi; the First Italo-American Building Association; the Federazione Italiana di Filadelfia; the Società Italiana di Mutuo Soccorso e Beneficenza; the Società Italiana di M. S. Santa Barbara; the monuments to Cristoforo Colombo and Giuseppe Verdi; the Parrocchia di Nostra Signora del Buon Consiglio; the Fabiani Italian Hospital and more. Also includes a history of the newspaper L'Opinione. In his brief essay on the Italian colony, Gerolamo Naselli, Regio Console of Philadelphia, states that the number of Italians in the city approximated 100,000. Profusely illustrated with b&w photographs, many by Giuseppe Brocato. Many portraits, businesses (banks, breweries, barber shops, factories, groceries, etc.), and several views of the Italian neighborhood (Federal Street, Fitzwater Street, Eight Avenue, Christian Street, Carpenter Street, and others). There are a few smudges and short closed tears to some of the leaves, otherwise internally clean. The spine was at some point re-glued rather amateurishly with the result that the first three or four leaves stuck to it and now are partially torn at the gutter. Good. An extremely interesting cross-section of immigrant life at the beginning of the 20th century. Uncommon, OCLC locates only two copies of this title. In the Italian language. ; Folio [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
