This work is a stunning study of the life and works of French Fauvist painter Raoul Dufy who has worked in a variety of media, including oils, watercolor (he produced over 6000), gouache, textiles and woodcuts. His paintings include many scenes of luxury and pleasure, and are characterized by vivid colors, calligraphic brush marks, brightly colored backgrounds and a sense of 'joie de vivre.' Illustrated with 6 original etchings by Dufy (including frontispiece) and numerous reproductions of paintings within the text in addition to the plates, this volume is one of 200 copies (No. 189) of the Deluxe edition on japan paper. Each original etching is signed in the plate, and is protected by a captioned tissue-guard. Size of each plate is 10 1/4 x 8", image is approx. 7 1/5 x 5 1/2". Moderate shelf wear. Spine creased.
