Signed Photograph of EDVARD GRIEG, the Norwegian Composer of PEER GYNT and the HOLBERG SUITE
- GRIEG, EDVARD. (1843-1907). Norwegian composer. SP. ("Edvard Grieg"). 1p. Cabinet. N.p. (Amsterdam), N.d. A lovely image taken by Amsterdam photographer Deutmann en Zonen depicting Grieg standing in three-quarters profile with his hands holding his lapels. Signed on the photographer's mount. Between 1867 and 1901 Grieg wrote ten collections of Lyric Pieces for piano, titles of which include Norwegian, National Song and Folktune and whose harmonies, inspired by the late romantic style, were considered avant-garde. Among his more popular pieces are the incidental music to Peer Gynt, the Holberg suite and the incidental music to Sigurd Jorsalfar. The immense popularity that Grieg earned during his lifetime has endured and up to this day his work is part of the standard repertoire. In fine condition, but not examined out of the frame. * All our items are sent via Federal Express. Additional postage may be requested.
