1549 - MATTHEW'S VERSION. With Apocrypha, Various Woodcuts related to Tyndale's works/translations, including Prologues, Miles Cloverdale and John Rogers. Incomplete, Exodus 32 to I Timothy. 475 of original 565 printed leaves present. Lacks general title (facsimile replacement). Contains titles to Joshua-Job (imperfect) & to Apocrypha, lacks Psalms title & New Testament title. Woodcut illustrations, initials & title border. [Herbert #74:] This is a reprint of Matthew's Bible of 1537, with notes, second edition, etc., revised; edited by Edmund Becke. Printed in black-letter; double columns, with 65 lines to the full column. References and a few notes, in the margins; contents before each chapter. The majority of the notes are printed together post chapters. With Tyndale's prologues, including the long prologues to Jonah and Romans. The illustrations in the text include a half page engraving before Isaiah, many small cuts throughout the text of the Old Testament, and cuts of each of the evangelists. It is often also called the "Bug" Bible, though the rendering "bugges" in Psalm xci is first found in the Coverdale Bible of 1549. Additional background laid inside Bible. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
