A Temperance Souvenir.
Women's Temperance Publication Association Chicago Women's Temperance Publication Association 1886 Small quarto. (9)pp. First edition. A collection of poems by Longfellow, Whittier, Lucy Larcom, and other American poets with messages against drinking, compiled by Mrs. G. S. Hunt. The booklet is notable for its four chromolithographic plates, which incorporate metallic inks. The softly-sketched, dreamy style and imagery of angels and cherubim evoke the work of William Blake and the Arts & Crafts illustrators of the period. The illustrations were printed at the Riverside Press in Cambridge, MA. One plate is loose, but the booklet appears to have been issued this way. Light soiling to white wrappers and a short split to head of spine, else near fine. Only two institutional copies recorded.
