Horrido! / Fighter Aces of the Luftwaffe (SIGNED BY BOTH AUTHORS)
Macmillan, New York 1968 - "First Printing" stated. Book will close both its own text block and its own black cloth-covered boards. Not price clipped; original $7.95 price showing. Dust jacket has minor chipping only to head and tail of spine. Introduction by Lt. Gen. Adolph Galland. Dated 4 January, 1969, signed in full by both authors, and inscribed in author Toliver's hand "To my friend Ewald Glenn Kruggel, one of the greatest troops of the 20th TFW in the 1955-1959 era. . . ." Col. Kruggel, born 1926 in Beaumont, Calif., was a B-17 gunner in the Philippines in 1945, flew 98 missions with the 67th Recon Wing in Korea (shot down once but successfully E&E), and flew 208 missions (101 North) in an F-4 out of Cam Rhan Bay, Republic of Vietnam. At the time Toliver knew him, he would have been flying F-84Fs and F-100Ds out of RAF Wethersfield, England. Retiring after 33 years, Kruggel moved to Las Vegas, where he spent 10 years building a Vans RV-4 and spent 12 years flying it. By our reckoning , that would have made him about 73 when he "hit some power lines chasing motorcycles over the desert," destroying the plane, at which point (he calmly told his buddies with the Super Sabre Society) "I was able to land at a nearby airport. That was it!!! I sold the wreck. My wife of 55 years grounded me and I took up playing golf again." 348 pp. including index. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
