A Farewell to Arms (First Edition, First State)
Charles Scribner's Sons, New York 1929 - First Edition, First Printing in original first state jacket. The author's landmark novel, set against the Italian campaign in World War I. This semi-autobiographical work tells the story of an amubulance driver's love affair and the chaos of war. --- Meets all points cited by Hanneman (A-8): no disclaimer, jacket with incorrect 'Katherine' instead of 'Catherine'; same date of 1929 on title and copyright pages, with Scribner device on copyright page. One of 31,050 first edition copies printed. Jacket with original $2.50 flap price. In full black cloth covers w/gold paper labels, cover and spine. Jacket with drawing by 'Cleon' on cover. --- A somewhat abused copy, with rubbing to spine and mildly bumped corners. A weak front hinge has been carefully reinforced prior to this listing. Leaves yellowed but clean and unmarked; textblock is firm. Fair only, tape-repaired jacket with substantial rubbing, a few holes at spine, chafing & small tears to edge. In fresh, removable archival mylar protector. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 355 pages [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
