London: Downer, c.1895 - 37 volume set, 8.75 inches tall. A superb set of this Edition de Luxe bound in full calf by Zaehnsdorf. With gilt raised bands, triple labels and ornate gilt tooling to the panels comprising of entwirled shamrocks. Gilt dentelles and all edges. This copy is number 45 of 100 produced and it includes an autographed letter from Charles Lever tipped in to volume 1. Profusely illustrated mostly by Phiz, many in full colour. Some fading to the labels but still a stunning set with absolutely no splitting or loss. Charles Lever, born in Dublin was sometimes referred to as the "Irish Dickens" and was much admired by both Dickens himself and Trollope. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
