Pelham Richardson, London 1850 - TWO VOLUME SET IN ORIGINAL BINDINGS. Royal blue textured cloth boards; fronts and spines richly decorated with gilt, backs blind-stamped. Bumped and edgeworn, corners and spine ends ragged, slightly marked but gilt still bright. Bindings firm, front inner hinge of Vol. I just starting. Text block edges browned, scattered foxing. Faded ink owner name, neat pencil bookseller notes and mark of small sticker removal to both ffeps. Text otherwise unmarked, plates foxed but mainly towards margins, all plates plus tissue protectors present. PANORAMIC "ELEVATION OF THE HIMALAYA" PRESENT, in pocket inside back board of Vol. I. Vol. I: xxxv, (1), 479pp; 28 lithographs of which 10 coloured, 3 tinted, 15 uncoloured. Vol. II: xiii, (2), 523pp; 21 lithographs of which 10 coloured, 1 tinted and 10 uncoloured. 4to (290 x 200mm). A well preserved and complete first edition copy of this first-hand account of mid-19th century Indian travel and customs.
