William Does His Bit
Newnes, London 1941 - dark green cloth with gilt lettering on the spine, minor corner rubs, some light foxing on text block and preliminary pages and just a few margins, otherwise generally clean and tight, overall VG+, a VERY SCARCE true first edition - according to Richmal Crompton's own account book, only 1,336 copies of this 7/6d first edition were ever sold. It comes with a FACSIMILE d/w - using the UNISSUED spine design by Thomas Henry that was intended for the first cheap edition "thick" reprint - but wartime paper shortages meant the reprints had to be thin, so the planned d/w was never issued [Attributes: First Edition]
