Contrèe 1944 - Etching in Arches wove. One of 10 impressions in black, signed in blue pencil by Picasso
, 1944. Etching in Arches wove. One of 10 impressions in black, signed in blue pencil by Picasso, and numbered in pencil from I to X, of which this one is the N. IX. Dated and signed in plate 23.D.43 Reference: Bloch #364 Cramer #39 In 1943 Picasso created this etching which was to serve as frontispiece of the book CONTRÈE, a collection of poems from his dear friend Robert Desnos. This etching dated 23.D.43 (December 23, 1943) depicts a seated figure in both sides, front and back. Millions of fine lines support the figure giving to the drawing, volume and intricacy. The style, in between Cubism and Surrealism, question our sense of perception of the whole piece: is the figure depicted a seated nude or is an embracing couple? In very good condition. More pictures on request.
