First Edition Both volumes of this two volume set are in near fine condition in red cloth covered boards with gilt text stamping on the spines. There is a prior owner's address label on the first free end pages of both. Both volumes are within very near fine dust jackets with the spine areas slightly tanned and a 1/16" chip from the upper edge of volume I. Signed by the author and numbered 489 out of only 1, 050 copies printed. The slipcase is in near fine condition. Volume I contains the first trade edition version of Kenneth Robert's Northwest Passage which remained on the best seller list for many months. It is the account of the life of Major Robert Roberts (founder of Robert's Rangers) as seen through the eyes of a fictional protagonist. Volume II contains "the unique historical material on which the essentials of the novel were based" to include a transcript of the courts martial trial of Major Roberts which was held in Montreal in 1768.
