Scandianensis, in Almo Ferrariensi Gymnasio De Rara Medicatione Vulnerum seu de Vulneribus raro` Tractandis liber Secundus in Quo Nova Traditur Methodus
London - Joh. P. Schmidt, 1733 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First edition. A scarce copy of this influential medical treatise. Third edition, written in Latin. Considerably expanded from the first edition. With chapters focusing on the process of using natural healing treatments to treat wounds, with particular focus on the studies of Ambroise Par . Ambroise Par was a French barber surgeon who served in the role for kings Henry II, Francis II, Charles IX and Henry III. He is considered one of the fathers of surgery and modern forensic pathology and a pioneer in surgical techniques and battlefield medicine, especially in the treatment of wounds. He was also an anatomist and invented several surgical instruments. Like Par, Magati believed that gunshot wounds were not in themselves poisonous. He proposed a rational treatment of wounds, which, in spite of the example set by Par, were still being treated with unguents of various kinds. He maintained that frequent exposure of wounds to the air was deplorable, and that the introduction of sounds and lint produced dangerous putrefaction. He denied the need for cleaning and anointing and prescribed bandaging with simple linen, to be renewed only after five or six days. (DNB)Featuring a vignette title page. Volume two of the original two. Condition: In a half paper vellum binding and marbled boards. Externally, a trifle rubbed with sunning to the spine and extremities. Wear and loss to extremities. Bothhinges have failed. Internally, binding is strained in places, with the title page detached but present.
