Harper & Brothers, Publishers, New York, NY 1884 - Very tall hardback without dust jacket; pictorial grey cloth binding with black lettering on spine and front cover, cover art in black and gold; all page block edges gilt. Tight and square binding has been professionally restored, saving the original cloth but laying it down over new grey cloth-covered beveled boards; book also has new endpapers, and two caption pages have been restored that were missing 5-6" chips at their bottom outside corners (not affecting text). Original cloth of binding is very smudged and a little scuffed; pages have rather frequent finger smudges, not affecting the text or images, and penciled notes on one early blank page have been erased but have left faint traces. All pages have faint 2"-wide, 1/2"-deep dampstains at their top outside corners. We will ask you to pay the actual cost of shipping this large book if you request that it be shipped via Priority Mail or to places outside the U. S. ; Text of poem and 24 dark and sometimes creepy full-page illustrations by Gustave Dore, with captions on semi-transparent pages protecting the illustrations.
