London: Smith, Elder & Co.,, 1861. 3 volumes, octavo. Original purple clooth, gilt decorated titles to spine, geometric panel blindstamped to sides. 16 page advertisements dated April 1861 to the rear of volume 3. Six engraved plates after illustrations by J. Edgar Millais. Covers faded, spines especially so, loss to cloth at spine ends, extremities lightly rubbed, occasional very mild spotting but remarkably clean inside. A good set in the original cloth. First edition, first impression. 4th in the Barchester Sequence, and an important Victorian novel, Framley Parsonage is 11th in Sadleir's list of comparative rarities. It was never reprinted in this format.
