Notice. Headquarters Western Defense Command and Fourth Army, Presidio of San Francisco, California, May 5, 1942. Civilian Exclusion Order No. 41.
Printed broadside, 22x14. Light edge wear and browning; otherwise very good. Order No. 41 states that all persons of Japanese ancestry, both alien and non-alien, are to be excluded from what were designated as the military portions of the city. The order also requires that a representative of each family report the Civil Control Station on May 6, 1942, or face criminal penalties. The broadside is signed in print by J. L. DeWitt, Lieutenant General, U.S. Army. This is an important piece of American history that records events that are not our "finest hour."
