Masken-Frisuren Kostume
Deutsche Allgemeine Friseur-Zeitung, Berlin 1927 - N.d., 1927. 4to. (28.5 by 22.5 cm.) 64 pp. Scarce, with two copies located on OCLC (Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, Sachsiche Landesbibliothek). Cover with baroque illustration of woman in Russian-accented dress of the eighteenth century, in a rendering redolent of Leon Bakst. Most of the pages within depict statuesque women (and a few men), in highly attitudinal, or haughty poses, with often fanciful, ornate or ultra-stylized dress, and in the corner is a line drawing of their coiffure. Stand-out designs include takes on the suits of playing cards, the several Biedermeier period inspired designs, the Jazz Girl, the Chocolate Boy, the Garconne (a tomboy-ish design), the Walzertraum (with a musical motif). The collection is quite a lark, while also capturing well the costume design aesthetic of the twenties. for in its interpretation of other time periods, the book very much and inescapably epitomizes its own self-conscious modernism. Wear to the wraps, with one small chip repaired with archival tape. Clean within. [Attributes: Soft Cover]
