Bibliotheque Raphael Esmerian Vol 1-5
1972 - Auction catalogues (5) for the most important and celebrated collection of Raphael Esmerian's fine bindings and manuscripts. The Auction was spread over 2 years 6th June 1972 to 18th June 1974 in the Palais Galliera Paris. The set of catalogues are themselves a bibliophile's delight and are much sought after. Each volume is 32 x 23.5 cm bound in green weave with gold gilt. I believe there was no DJ issued. Each volume varies in number of pages but each contains numerous illustrations and drawings with tipped in coloured plates of the most valuable lots. 670 lots listed. The set is accepted as complete in Five volumes that is WITHOUT the second part of Volume 2. the latter volume is NOT included in this sale. Vol 1 191 pps (Livres XV et XVI centuries).Vol 2 183 pps (Reliures XVII et Livres XVII et XVIII centuries.Vol 3 105 pps (Livres illustre du XVIII Century. Vol 4 123 pps (Livres du XIX century.Vol 5 147 pps (Livre illustre modern) Condition is fine for all volumes except that there is a slight bump to the bottom corner of Volume I. Auction sales of this fabulous set have reached 1000 US dollars.
