Visions of Childhood
Lorson's Books & Prints, Fullerton [California] 1984 - 58x39cm, six loose broadsides. Various individual copy numbers (115, 44, 44, 44, 54, 44) of a total set limitation of 125, of six unbound broadsides on a thick Arches Creme paper, each with a Stevenson poem and an etching by FitzGerald, each signed by FitzGerald, in a portfolio of purple cloth over boards with a paper label to the front. A monumental portfolio of broadsides printed by the Whittington Press for Lorson's Books and Prints, published prior to John Randle and Jim Lorson's subsequent collaboration on several miniature books in the mid-1980s. Printing of the texts and borders was by Whittington, and the sheets were then printed with the etchings by FitzGerald in Los Angeles. Overall a magnificent production - scarce, and not recorded in Butcher. More specifically, David Butcher describes four of these broadsides as 'a series of four posters for Lorson's Books and Prints' in 'The Whittington Press: A Bibliography 1982 - 1993', these being ' The Land of Counterpane' B38 (1982), 'Block City' B43 (1983), 'The Flowers' B53 (1984) and 'Picture-Books in Winter' (1984). The other two broadsides present here, 'The Moon' dated 1982, and 'A Good Play' dated 1983, are not recorded by Butcher (although they are clearly also printed at Whittington), nor is the collection of any set of broadsides in a Portfolio edition, as here. All broadsides Fine, in a Fine portfolio. Please note that this item is extra large and shipping above our standard rates (although strictly at cost only) will apply - please enquire for details.
