The Heart Of The Antarctic two volumes
William Heinemann, London 1909 - Being The Story Of the British Antarctic Expedition 1907-1909. With an introduction by Hugh Robert Mill an account of the First Journey to the South Magnetic Pole by Professor T.W. Edgeworth David. Both volumes are bound in blue cloth with a silver vignette of explorers set in a beveled rectangular panel on each front board. Very light sunning to the boards in some places. Gilt titles to the spines. Spine sunned. Some lifting of the cloth to the top rear board on volume one, cloth split along the outer hinges to volume two with slight fraying to the top and tail. Top edge gilt, pages are un-trimmed. Volume one, pp xlviii + 371. Volume two, pp xv + 418. Contents are clean with only minor foxing throughout. All plates are present, two panoramic views, on one sheet, and three folding maps, located in a pocket to the rear, are present and intact. Overall a good first edition of this iconic title.
