PLATO'S PROGRESS.
Cambridge University Press, Cambridge 1966 - SIGNED, INSCRIBED "WITH THE AUTHOR'S COMPLIMENTS". & DATED BY GILBERT RYLE. Inscription without personalization. TWO TYPED LETTERS SIGNED BY PROFESSOR RYLE ARE LAID IN AS WELL. Fine hardback First Edition in a Near Fine Dust Jacket. 8vo. viii, 311 pp. The letters are a reply to the book owner's request for Ryle's autograph and apparently something more involved. The first letter reads in part ".I am certainly not going to write an essay on 'what is the meaning or purpose of life'. I regard this as a 'gas' question". The second letter reinforces that he will only sign the book. Interesting and amusing correspondence --particularly if you understand gas questions. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
