The History of Duelling in Two Parts. Containing the Origin, Progress, Revolutions, and Present State of Duelling in France and England.
London: E. & C. Dilly. 1770 - Modern full calf. 18mo. 176pp. First English edition. The first part is by Coustard de Massi. The second, from an English point of view, is anonymous as is the translator of the first part. Coustard de Massi (1734-93) was a French writer and politician, born in Haiti and noted for his baloon ascents. He was guillotined for alleged "federalism" during the French Revolution. A very good copy in a handsome leather binding. The text is very good with some light bronwing and wear. The textbock fore-edge has a small stain at the top but this does not affect any of the book's pages. Scarce. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
