Original drawing of "Zilpha March," an illustration for Edgar Lee Masters' Spoon River Anthology
n.p., n.d.. Pencil and gouache on masonite. Approx. 12 x 14-1/2 inches. Framed. Signed with initials ("BR"). Ex-Metropolitan Museum of Art . An intriguing work depicting a man reading and looking up in wonder at the literary figures surrounding him which he has conjured up while reading. These figures are derived from the lines of "Zilpha Marsh" in The Spoon River Anthology: "And after that the spirits swarmed-Chaucer, Caesar, Poe and Marlow, Cleopatra and Mrs. Surrat-" (page 221 of the First Edition, 1915). Done in 1942 for the Limited Edited Club
