Paris, A fine view taken in the Radak islands with two native shelters in the middle ground, a baby being suckled in the shade of one, with a child looking on, and a breadfruit tree and lush vegetation in the foreground. Marked Plate XII, this print is taken from Vues et Paysages des RĂ©gions Equinoxiales, the second of Louis Choris's spectacular works published following his return to Paris having accompanied Kotzebue on the first Russian circumnavigation.Choris took the post of official artist on Kotzebue's first voyage (1815-1818) at the relatively early age of 20, publishing on his return a remarkable work Voyage Pittoresque autour du Monde, with some 104 hand-coloured plates.
