Hodder & Stoughton, New York - c. 1911. 119 p. 19 tipped-in colour plates by Detmold. Squirrel illustration loose. 1/4 cloth with pictorial board hard cover. Spine worn and corners rubbed bare. Boards lightly stained and faded. A baby bit of foxing. Hinges repaired and rear end papers replaced. Thumbprints. With the exception of the Donkey illustration, the plates are spotless, vibrant and captivating to look at. Florence Dugdale was also Mrs. Thomas Hardy. Includes a diverse menagerie composed of a polar bear, squirrel, donkey, rat, chimpanzee, elephant, hippopotamus, rhinoceros, tiger, camel, giraffe, kangaroo, dog, kitten, colt, lamb, calf, llama and fawn.
