New Mexican Printing Co., Santa Fe 1912 - Lg. heavy 8vo. Original blind embossed bright purple boards, rebacked with matching cloth with bright gold title, orig. spine laid in at front, gilt title on ft. bd. still very bright, mild wear at corners and bd. edges, otherwise, the boards are unmarred, hinges tight; marbled eps. with errata sheet affixed to ffep, 3 small rubs to ft pastedown; very mild age toning, no foxing, last couple of pages have very shallow chipping to foredge; tiny stamp of a school bottom tp not affecting type; SIGNED and inscribed in Spanish by author to Rafael Leon over his photo on pg. after tp; pp.812. Santa Fe Attorney Benjamin Read originally wrote this extensive history in Spanish, published in 1911. He subsequently published this revised English edition in 1912, printed by the same folks who published the daily newspaper, The New Mexican. It was an edition of only 500 copies, this being no. 499. Apparently, it remained in his possession for a while because beneath the limitation statement there is an ink stamp with the author's name and location. A really nice copy of a scarce volume.
