ITALY FROM THE ALPS TO MOUNT ETNA It's Arts, It's Cities, It's Lakes, It's Rivers
London: William Glaisher, 1903. First edition. With 164 black and white illustrations. 4to, original gray-blue cloth gilt lettered and pictorially decorated in gilt and black on the spine and upper cover, a.e.g. viii, 302 pp. A very fine copy, unusually bright and clean the gilt very bright and beautifully preserved and with no sign of fading to the spine. A tight and as pristine example with little evidence of age. AN UNUSUALLY BRIGHT AND HANDSOME COPY. This is an extremely attractive Italian travel book with beautiful engravings on almost every page. The first-hand narrative enters Italy through Mont Cenis, and moves on to Trentino, Verona, Venice, Mantua, Milan, the lakes, Genoa, Florence, Siena, and many others ending at the Island of Etna. The text is written in a clear and congenial style, with great awareness of literature and the arts as it moves from one historic town to the next. A lovely addition to any Italian collection.
