Jean-Baptiste Alliette (1738-1791) was the first person to popularise divination using Tarot cards. He began publishing short works on cards and divination in 1770 with the present work being among the last. In it he discusses his interpretations of what would become the Major and Minor Arcana of today's Tarot as well as introducing elemental and astrological ideas. A very good copy of a rare early work on the Esoteric Tarot. Bibliotheca Esoterica [1535]; Caillet [205]
